The Greater Miami Society for Human Resources Management recognized the University of Miami as the 2011 Diversity and Inclusion Award recipient.  The award honors companies whose diversity and inclusion practices transcend the norm.  UM was honored for best practices and innovative initiatives for promoting diversity.  Some examples include:

-  Engagement in special recruitment efforts to attract veterans, including those with disabilities
-  Establishing the Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity and Success (SEEDS) program to orchestrate grass-roots efforts that promote opportunities for women and minority engineers
-  Supporting programs to assist under-served communities in Dade County, including the Jefferson Reaves Sr. Health Center, Families First Network and more
