UM HR Managers and Directors

 

Jose Capote, MPA, Athletics
Jose has 15 years of experience as a human resources generalist and is currently serving more than 150 employees as the human resources manager for the Athletics Department. Jose’s specialty areas include recruitment and selection, process improvement, employee relations, performance management, and process improvement. He has been with the UM since August 2012.

 

Grissette Garcia, MSHRM, PHR, Finance and Treasury
Grissette has more than eight years of experience in human resources including international assignments in Latin America. She is Six Sigma Green Belt certified and is qualified to facilitate Great Leaders, Great Teams, Great Results and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Grissette’s specialty areas include organization and changes, learning and development, and employee relations. She has been with UM since May 2013.

 

Charisse Lopez-Mason, MA. Comm., Human Resources
Charisse has been with the University for 10 years, where she has held strategic roles in marketing, fundraising, and human resources. Charisse leads the HR and communications area within the department of human resources, which focuses on talent management and development of the HR team, and implementation of a comprehensive HR strategy.


 

Veronica Maristany, M.Ed., Information Technology
Veronica has more than eighteen years of experience in human resources management, and is currently serving more than 500 employees as the director of human resources for Information Technology. Veronica has helped design and facilitate leadership training programs targeting HR policies, management coaching skills, conflict resolution, and diversity. Her specialty areas include employee relations, leadership and staff development, investigations, performance management, and employee engagement. She has been with UM since August 2012.

 

Magali "Maggie" Pertierra, College of Arts and Sciences
Maggie has more than 22 years of experience in human resources, and currently serves as the director of human resources for the College of Arts and Sciences. Her specialty areas include recruitment, training and development, strategic planning, policies and procedures, and research and design. Maggie has served or currently serves on various University committees including Employee Survey, DHRS Webification, and Onboarding. She has been with UM since 1991.

 

Jorge Pineda, B.G.S, School of Law
Jorge L. Pineda has more than 28 years of experience in human resources, and currently serves as the director of human resources for the School of Law. His specialty areas include recruiting and retention, training and development, strategic planning, performance management, policies and procedures, and employee relations. Jorge completed the HR certification program at UM and has participated on a number of University committees including Recruiting and On-boarding, Policies and Procedures, and Waiver. Jorge has also served as a facilitator for the Performance Improvement Management workshops, Modules I, II, and III. He has been with UM since 1992.

 

Ameer Swanson, SPHR, Real Estate and Facilities
Ameer has more than 13 years of experience in human resources as a generalist, and is currently serving more than 300 employees as the human resources manager for the Real Estate and Facilities group. Ameer’s specialty areas include employee engagement, process improvement, leadership development, change management, and employee relations. He has been with UM since January, 2013.

 

JaRenae Whitehead, MBA, SPHR, School of Business Administration
JaRenae has more than 17 years of experience in human resources as a generalist, and is currently serving as the human resources manager for the School of Business Administration. JaRenae specializes in employee relations and has been with UM since 1996.



 

Cassandra Wiggins, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
Cassandra has 30 years of experience as a human resources generalist, and is currently serving as the director of human resources and faculty affairs for the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. The Rosenstiel campus is located on Key Biscayne and is home to more than 350 UM employees. Cassandra’s specialty areas include organizational and leadership and staff development, performance management, and process improvement. She has been with UM since 2011.
