  1. The Service Awards program provides an opportunity for the University of Miami to recognize employees for their many years of service. Employees receive an award at 5-year intervals, beginning with their 10-year milestone.

  2. Human Resources administers the University-wide program. The service provider for the program is Eagle Recognition.

  3. All full-time and part-time employees are eligible for a Long Service Award after the completion of each 5-year interval of qualifying service beginning with year 10 (i.e. 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, etc.).

  4. The LSA-Travel Award is available to eligible employees who reach a 45-year milestone and at 5-year intervals. The intent of the award is to provide complimentary travel certificates for the employee and guest.

  5. The service awards are designed to recognize service years as a full-time regular employee or a part-time regular employee who works at least 50% or more. Time employed as a temporary employee cannot be counted toward the years of service.

  6. The Long Service Award is designed to recognize employees beginning with 10 years of qualifying service.

  7. Full-time and part-time employees that leave UM and return to UM as a full-time or part-time employee may be eligible to have their service years bridged. If this is the case, eligibility takes place when the total service years reach the appropriate milestone.

  8. We never want to intentionally exclude anyone from receiving the acknowledgement for the years of service an individual has given to UM. However, mistakes do happen. If an employee believes that they have or had enough years of service to qualify for the Long Service Award, please contact Human Resources at 305-284-3799 or via email longserviceaward@miami.edu

  9. A list of each year’s recipients will be available and posted to the Service Award website by February 1st.

  10. Years of eligible service are calculated from the regular date of hire, less any time indicated by a change in status other than Faculty Full Time Regular (FP), Full Time Regular (FR), Part Time Regular (PR), Resident (RS), Leave of Absence (LY), and/or Sabbatical (SB).

  11. When an employee becomes eligible, an award packet will be sent to the employee’s home address. This usually takes place during the first half of the year. The packet will contact a certificate and an award order form with instructions on how to order.

  12. The University pays for the employee’s service award, including any associated sales taxes or shipping fees. It is the University’s intent to ensure that employees are not out of pocket as a result of receiving a service award.

  13. Employees will have the option of ordering their service award through Eagle Recognition online website, www.awardorder.net, by mail, phone or fax. Instructions on how to place an order are included in the award packet.

  14. Employees are only eligible to choose an award from the service level that they are celebrating.

  15. Eagle Recognition offers a variety of awards available in each service level, so employees should be able to find an attractive award. The packet has an assortment of traditional awards, timepieces, jewelry, home and leisure items, and electronic equipment. Anyone with difficulty making a selection can contact Human Resources at 305-284-3799.

  16. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery of the award. Some larger items may require additional time.

  17. Eagle Recognition has a 5-year warranty on merchandise and a lifetime warranty on jewelry. Eagle Recognition will replace the damaged item, no questions asked, and will incur all costs associated with returned or replaced items.

  18. If the employee is not completely satisfied with the selected award, it can be returned or exchanged for a different item, no questions asked. However, the employee may incur all costs associated with the return/exchange.

  19. Eagle Recognition will send three reminders to order an award. If the employee has not placed an order in 120 days, they will automatically send the employee a “default” award. The default award is a pre-selected clock based on the employee’s service level. The clock cannot be returned or exchanged for a different award.
