Kristina Jacomino, a senior in the Honors Program, majors in Biomedical Engienering. She is also a Hammond Scholar and recipient of the Norman G. Einspruch Scholarship. Christina serves as Vice President for the Society of Women Engineers and as the Vice President of Leadership for the Minority Association of Pre-health Students, for which she attended the 2012 National Conference.
She participated in a variety of research projects, including working in Dr. Ozcan Ozdamar’s Neurosensory Laboratory. This project involved becoming certified by CITI to work with human subjects and studying attention effects on auditory evoked potentials by measuring neurosensory output from the brain. She also worked as a Pre-Health Summer Intern at the Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center in Doral, FL. This experience gave Christina an understanding and further awareness of the health disparity crisis in Miami-Dade County. Part of her work involved teaching low-income children about healthy eating habits and shadowing a pediatrician in the Jessie Trice Community Health Center.
