Some colleges/schools and departments at UM require only the CITI on-line course for RCR training; others require a classroom-based “live” RCR course in addition to the CITI on-line course, particularly for persons with NIH funding.  Contact your college/school or department for more information about its current requirements.

Colleges/schools and departments that wish to schedule a live RCR session offered by the Ethics Programs should call 305-243-5723 or send email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  We will need a rough estimate of the number of trainees and their level(s), acceptable date/time blocks, and proposed classroom locations.  Once a date/time/location is agreed upon, the school/college/department sends a list of their trainees for that session to the Ethics Programs.

(1) REGISTERING FOR A CITI ON-LINE RCR COURSE

To register for and complete an on-line RCR course via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program, follow the instructions in this document: Accessing CITI Online RCR Courses (PDF)

  • Complete the assigned RCR course modules as your schedule permits.  You can start and stop at any time, completing modules as your schedule allows.
  • Contact the CITI Help Desk at 305-243-7970 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you need assistance with registration or any other aspect of CITI content use.

(2) REGISTERING FOR A CLASSROOM-BASED RCR COURSE

Registration for “live” RCR classes is done by colleges, schools and departments on behalf of the trainee.  If you need live RCR training, contact your college, school or department to request that you be included in an upcoming RCR session.  See the list of upcoming classes.

  • College, school and department administrators who wish to have an Ethics Programs RCR class scheduled for a group of trainees should contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
  • Note that completion of a CITI RCR course is generally required to attend a live course.  You should bring a copy of your CITI completion report to the first class session.  (These can be printed while you are on the CITI Program site.)

(3) REGISTERING IN THE UM REGISTRATION SYSTEM TO PERMANENTLY RECORD YOUR COMPLETIONS

Most UM colleges and schools track completion of RCR courses in the UM course registration system, so that these can be reflected in students’ transcripts.  Your college or school will inform you whether this registration will be performed by them, or whether it is something you must do yourself.

  • CITI Program completions are recorded in the UM system as a “satisfactory” grade in RST-501/601.
  • Classroom completions are recorded as a “satisfactory” in RST-502/602 or the course number that the college or school has assigned to RCR.
