UM Veterans Affairs Office

The University of Miami maintains a Veterans Affairs Office in the Office of the Registrar to assist veterans and dependents of veterans who are entitled to VA educational benefits. The Veterans Office connects student veterans with the resources they need to successfully transition from combat to classroom. This includes help navigating the admissions process, applying for financial aid and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education, benefits and academic assistance. UM Student Veteran Benefits

Students Veterans Virtual Career Fair: The Virtual Veterans Career Fair is hosted by the South Florida Career Centers Consortium. This fair is an opportunity to recruit student and alumni veterans from South Florida that are from various universities and colleges, including the University of Miami.

The Yellow Ribbon Program: The University of Miami participates in the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship Program and award grants to eligible undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to law students.

Military Scholarships: The Office of Financial Assistance provides a list of military scholarships to help make academic and career pursuits more viable for veterans and their family members.

UM Campus & Community

Veteran Student Services serves as a centralized campus resource center that provides support to the veteran student population for their successful transition from military service to campus life and beyond.

Veteran Student Organization works to support military veterans at the University of Miami, share information on topics such as academic success, financial stability, educational benefits, and the Veterans Administration policies and procedures, and to educate the UM community on veteran issues.

The School of Law has primary contacts available for active and former military service members and their families to provide information, assistance and resources to ensure success of our military veterans and family members.

The Military Law Society serve as a guide for UM law students who are interested in joining the military or learning more about the military law. MLS's goal is to help students involved in the military, interested in the military, and veterans.

The Miami VA Healthcare System serves Veterans in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties, providing general medical, surgical, inpatient and outpatient mental health services, to an estimated veteran population of 175,000.

The University of Miami Health System offers healthcare services from South Florida's premier doctors and hospitals by combining patient care and research. As South Florida's only university system, UHealth is a vital component of the community.

The South Florida Military Access Portals for Supports and Services (SF MAPS) program was established at the University of Miami’s Mailman Center for Child Development (MCCD) in collaboration with US Army SOUTHCOM to guide military families to obtain the support, services and resources they require, through the information and tools provided on the website.

	Americas Heroes At Work is a U.S. Department of Labor project that addresses the employment challenges of returning service members and veterans living with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The website provides tools for employers and the workforce development system to help returning service members and veterans living with TBI and/or PTSD succeed in the workplace, particularly those returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

	The Army Career and Alumni Program delivers a world-class transition program for America's Army that ensures all eligible trasitioners have the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to be competitive and successful in the global workforce. ACAP helps to make informed career decisions through benefits counseling and employment assistance.

	This website is a gateway to information and resource links that will assist veterans, veterans' families and employers in accomplishing their employment goals. It also includes information about the Employ Florida Marketplace that will match job seekers with employers and other employment-related services.

	Hero2Hired assists soldiers and their family members with job placement. The website is open to all job seekers with a military affiliation and contains everything a job seeker needs to find a job, including job listings, career exploration tools, education and training resources, advice, and networking opportunities.

	Hire Heroes USA is dedicated to creating job opportunities for US military veterans and their spouses through personalized employment training and corporate engagement. Hire Heroes vision is to maintain the Nation’s most effective veteran transition and employment assistance program, modeling a process that will drastically decrease the unemployment rate of the men and women who served this country.

	Hire Patriots is represented by veteran owned and patriotic businesses across America. They create a nationwide employment safety net for U.S. veterans, so wherever a veteran lives in the U.S., they can find work everyday, with either a one-day, temporary or full-time job.

	Military Hire is a networking website where former military personnel can seek careers and utilize their professional skills by connecting veterans of America's armed forces with employers who value their experience and skills.

	The National Resource Directory connects wounded service members, veterans, their families, and caregivers to programs and services that supports them. It provides access to services and resources at the national, state and local levels to support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration.

	Recruit Military is a full-service military-to-civilian recruiting firm in the U.S. They use online and office products to connect employers and education institutions with men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserve forces, and military spouses.

	Troops to Teachers is a U.S. Department of Defense program that provides counseling and referral services to military personnel interested in beginning a second career in public education as a teacher. TTT will help applicants identify teacher certification requirements, programs leading to certification and employment opportunities.

Veteran Organizations

AVER is a non-profit association of active, reserve and veteran service members dedicated to full and equal rights and equitable treatment for all present and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Blinded Veterans Association

The BVA is a U.S non-profit organization that was established to help veterans and their families meet and overcome the challenges of blindness. Services from BVA are available to all veterans who have become blind, either during or after active duty.

Disabled American Veterans

DAV is an organization for disabled military veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members and was Congressionally chartered as the official voice of the nation's wartime disabled veterans.

Florida Veterans Foundation

The Florida Veterans Foundation serves Florida veterans and their families by providing direct services and partnering with state and local governments, veteran service organizations, and education institutions to improve their physical, financial, mental, emotional, and social well being.

Healing Heroes Network

A Florida based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the brave men and women of the military and their families by providing financial assistance to veterans injured in the line of duty while in Iraq or Afghanistan on or after September 11, 2001.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

IAVA is an advocacy group dedicated to U.S. veterans of the War in Iraq and War in Afghanistan. IAVA's programs empower the community online and offline, and include health, employment, education and community resources.

Military Officers Association of America

MOAA is the nation's largest and most influential association of military officers. They are a powerful force speaking for a strong national defense and representing the interest of military officers and their families at every stage of their careers.

National Association for Black Veterans

NABVETS is a nationally-certified Veterans Service Organization and a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs claims representative. NABVETS provides personal advocacy on behalf of veterans seeking claims against the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.

Paralyzed Veterans of America

PVA is a veterans' service organization in the U.S. of America, founded in 1946. Their mission is to change lives and build brighter futures for our seriously injured heroes and to empower these brave men and women with what they need to achieve the things they fought for: freedom and independence.

Student Veterans of America

This organization works to provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education, achieve their academic goals, and gain meaningful employment.

Veterans for America

The VFA works to unite a new generation of veterans with those from past wars to address the causes, conduct, and consequences of war. VFA is an advocacy and humanitarian organization whose primary mission is to ensure that our country meets the needs of service members and veterans.

Women in Military Service for America Memorial
