| Vice President for Student Affairs |
| As Vice President for Student Affairs, Pat Whitely is responsible for the leadership and policy development for the Departments of residence halls, wellness and recreation, health services, commencement, counseling services, career planning and placement, dean of students, orientation, student life and student activities, university center, as well as all student crisis management, and other offices serving the 10,000 undergraduates at the University of Miami. Whitely is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of 126 staff, for a budget exceeding $53 million, and for out-of-class education and learning opportunities supporting 11 colleges and schools serving over 15,000 students. |
| Whitely has an Ed.D. in higher education administration from the University of Miami, a M.Ed. in student personnel services from the University of South Carolina, and a B.S. in management with minors in economics and theology from St. John's University. Whitely also completed post-doctoral work in higher education at Harvard University's Institute for Higher Education, and brings her wealth of experience to the classroom in the Organization and Administration of Higher Education course at the University of Miami. |
| Whitely served as chairperson of the City of Coral Gables Community Relations Committee and has served as the UM Chairperson for United Way from 2001-2004. She currently serves on the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Journal Editorial Board. She has served on the NASPA Region III Advisory Board, the American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Educational Leadership Foundation, and served as the Executive Director for the NASPA 2002 Alice Manicur Symposium for Women preparing to become Senior Student Affairs Officers. In March 2009, she received the NASPA Pillar of the Profession Award given each year to honor members of the profession who have served as leaders, teachers, and scholars in student affairs and higher education. |
| She is the recipient of over 30 honors by students and student organizations, and was the first woman at the University of Miami to be tapped into the Alpha Chapter of the Order of Omega, the Greek honor society. |
