In 1999 while working at a hospital laundry service company in Miami, Ms. Robledo had the opportunity to meet the director of a large hospital in South Florida. Some months later the director told her that he had an important hospital inspection coming up and asked if she knew a seamstress that could make alterations to some old hospital curtains he had in storage. Susana agreed to contact some seamstresses, but to her surprise they refused to do the work claiming that curtains from a hospital would give them diseases. With that disappointing news Susana told the hospital director that she could not help him with the alterations to the curtains. She thought that would be the end of it, but instead he encouraged her to have her mother do the work since she had mentioned earlier that she gave her mother a sewing machine for mother’s Day. She was hesitant, but in the end Susana and her mother worked until past midnight for many days until they custom-fitted the curtains to each specific location in the hospital. After all this work she learned that the hospital would not pay her unless she was incorporated. The next challenge was to come up with a name. Luckily a co-worker thought of one first: CUBE CARE! She loved it, it stuck, and Cube Care Company was born.
