 A business that is at least 51% owned and operated by an African American individual(s) with United States citizenship. African Americans have origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.
 A business that is at least 51% owned and operated by an Asian American individual(s) with United States citizenship. Asian is the ethnicity of an individual whose origins are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Samoa, Guam, US Trust Territories of the Pacific or the Northern Marianas. Included are Asian Pacific and Asian Indian categories.

 A business that is at least 51% owned and operated by a Hispanic American individual(s) with United States citizenship. Hispanic is the ethnicity of an individual whose origins are from any of the Spanish speaking areas of Latin America or the following regions: Mexico, Central America, South American, and the Caribbean Basin.
 Small business operating in a historically underutilized business zoned owned and controlled by one or more United States Citizen where at least 35% of its employees reside in a HUBZone. HUBZone businesses must be certified by the Small Business Administration

 An American business concern operating within a Labor Surplus Area as designated by Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
 A business with receivables and or number of employees, usually more than 500 employees, exceeding the Small Business Administration standards for small businesses.

 An independent business which performs a commercially useful function and is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more minority persons of African American, Hispanic American, Asian-Pacific American or Native American ethnicity.

N
 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Size Standards. Used by the United States Small Business Administration to determine if the company is a large or small business. In 1997, the NAICS codes replaced the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. The SIC codes had been used for several decades. NAICS codes can be identified using SIC numbers.
 A business that is at least 51% owned and operated by a Native American individual(s) with United States citizenship. Native American is the ethnicity of an individual whose origins are from American Indians, Aleuts, Eskimos and Native Hawaiians.

S
 A certified small business that is at least 51% owned and operated by a Service Disabled Veteran(s) of the United States Armed Forces with United States citizenship.
 A concern, including its affiliates, that is independently owned and operated, not dominant in the field of operation in which it is bidding on government contracts, and qualified as a small business and generally have fewer than 500 employees.
 Other small business enterprises that do not qualify under one of the disadvantage small business definitions may be considered for a diversity contract after meeting the definition of a small business according to their state statutes or certification.
 A business that meets Small Business Administration requirements for small businesses and be unconditionally owned and operated by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals who are in good character and citizens of the United States and must demonstrate potential for success.
 A proactive business process that seeks to provide suppliers equal access to purchasing opportunities. It promotes supplier participation reflective of the diverse business community and encourages economic development.
