The University of Miami offers financial security benefits to help you protect you and your family in the case of accident, illness or disability. The group life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance as well as the long term disability and one month’s pay death benefit plans are paid in full by the University.  You may choose to purchase additional protection through excess life insurance, the voluntary AD&D plan, short-term disability and long-term care plans.

Faculty and Staff are automatically enrolled in life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance (AD&D) upon hire. In addition, faculty and staff may apply for excess life at any time, though it is beneficial to apply within 90 days of your hire date for guaranteed coverage of the lesser of three times (3x) your annual salary or $250,000. Voluntary AD&D coverage may only be elected within 90 days of your hire date.

The University also offers long term disability, short term disability and long-term care.
