As a UM/Aetna member, you are entitled to discounts on lenses, frames, contacts, and LASIK surgery. Choose from a large network of providers, as well as thousands of independent optometrists and ophthalmologists. The network also includes major retailers such as LensCrafters, Target Optical, and select Sears Optical and Pearle Vision locations. To take advantage of these savings, simply present your Aetna member ID card to an EyeMed provider at the time of service.

As an added benefit, UM/Aetna plan members are entitled to a free annual exam with an Aetna/EyeMed or Bascom Palmer optometrist or ophthalmologist as part of the Well ’Canes free preventive care services.

NOTE: Costs for visits to an ophthalmologist for reasons other than preventive care are covered under the UM/Aetna medical plan at a specialist office visit copay.

The University of Miami wants to ensure that all employees enrolled in the medical plans are taking full advantage of the Vision Discount Program offered by Aetna through EyeMed.  Here are some tips to help employees maximize this benefit.

1.  Search www.aetna.com for a Vision Discount provider.
2.  Present your Aetna ID card at your eye doctor visit so that your provider can verify your benefits.
3.  Notify your provider that you have the “Aetna Exam Only” plan.  This makes it clear that you are not to be charged a copay for your annual eye exam.
