The University will continue to extend limited compensation and benefits to employees who are called to active duty as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Employees who are called to active duty are urged to contact Benefits Administration at 305-284-3004 for a complete explanation of their Benefits.  All employees are entitled to their jobs and benefits once they return.

Students who are called to military duty will have no financial penalties imposed upon them. Students will be assisted with appropriate withdrawal from the University and will be extended every opportunity to reenroll without penalty. The University of Miami staff will remain flexible and available to assist with military personnel to accommodate their needs during this time.”

Applies to all faculty and staff:

• One month pay from date of call up
• Option to get paid for all accrued vacation
• Six months university sponsored health care for family members
• Additional five years coverage available to family at group rates with no university contribution
• Additional 18 months Federal Cobra qualified benefits to family at end of 5 year period for elections made prior to 12/10/04
• Additional 24 months Federal Cobra qualified benefits to family at end of 5 year period for elections made after 12/10/04
• Dependents currently eligible for tuition remission will be allowed to continue the benefit while the reservist is on active duty
• Basic life insurance coverage remains in force
• Additional benefits may be continued during the leave if arranged in advance through benefits administration
• Long Term Disability and Accidental Death and Dismemberment policies exclude coverage for acts of war

Also:

• Faculty enrolled in the faculty retirement plan receive continued financial contributions
• Those enrolled in the Employees Retirement Plan accrue service credit while on leave
