The University of Miami’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has primary responsibility for emergency preparedness on all UM campuses. The OEM serves as the center for university-wide planning for and coordinated response to all major emergencies no matter the cause. The safety of every member of the university community is of utmost importance to us. Learn more about the office and its partners by visiting the OEM webpage.

The University of Miami Emergency Notification Network (ENN) is the comprehensive communications solution that allows the University to quickly disseminate an urgent message through multiple communications mediums. If there is a condition which significantly threatens the health and safety of persons on campus or impacts normal campus operations, university officials will warn the campus community using one or more communication methods. Learn more by visiting the ENN webpage.

Note: During an emergency requiring the activation of the ENN system, this box will be updated by university officials with the latest details regarding the emergency, protective action recommendations, and official announcements regarding cancellations, closures, etc. Please make sure you check this page for periodic updates during an emergency.

STAY Training Strategy Adopted for Campus Emergency Incidents
As part of its efforts to help ensure the safety of the UM community, the University adopted a new protection strategy for campus incidents with the potential for loss of life or bodily harm. After extensive research among peer institutions, the University of Miami Police Department has recommended the “STAY in Place” approach, rather than a campus-wide lockdown, as the best safety practice. Learn more by visiting the STAY News Release.

Emergency Planning at UM
In the event of an emergency, the 2011 University of Miami Disaster Preparation and Recovery Plan (PDF) will be activated to ensure the safety of all campuses. At the direction of the Crisis Decision Team, the Emergency Operations Center is activated to receive and disseminate information to the University family, and will be staffed with operators to assist callers. Students, faculty, or staff who are forced to evacuate or temporarily relocate can notify the University of their new location and contact information by going to recover.miami.edu.

Please remember no matter what campus you are on, always call 911 during a life threatening emergency.
