Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Vocal Performance (D.M.A.)

The Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Vocal Performance degree program focuses on developing and defining the solo artistry of our students. This program of study is designed for students possessing a Masters degree in jazz studies-voice or jazz vocal performance who also have experience in performing a variety of jazz and contemporary vocal styles. Students who hold a Masters degree in a related music area with professional jazz performance experience may also be successful candidates for this program.

Students experience a more tailored environment with our faculty who are established master teachers, performers, and industry professionals. Frost MSJV doctoral students will continue to develop their own solo jazz and contemporary vocal style and have the opportunity to gain experience in developing their own ensemble rehearsal techniques and solo jazz and contemporary vocal style teaching methods.

Our graduates are working in many areas of performance in the music industry as solo recording artists, session singers, published jazz vocal and choral arrangers, professional vocal ensemble members and freelance musicians. Several of our alumni hold prominent faculty positions in several of the leading university jazz vocal and commercial music programs in the country.

We look forward to welcoming you to Studio Music and Jazz Program at the University of Miami Frost School of Music!
