Cuban native Dafnis Prieto was honored as a Stamps Distinguished Visitor during the 2008-2009 season at the University of Miami Frost School of Music as a star drummer. He has been called “the most impressive young drummer to come on the jazz scene during the past decade” (All About Jazz). Legendary Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri calls Prieto “extraordinary… an extremely talented jazz drummer.”
Prieto’s revolutionary drumming techniques have had a powerful impact on both the Latin and jazz music scenes. A gifted performer, composer, and educator, Prieto is winner of the 2006 Up & Coming Musician of the Year (Jazz Journalists Association) and recipient of Grammy nominations for Best Latin Jazz Album and Best New Artist.
