Chris Palowitch, trombone, is a double major in Music Business and Instrumental Performance at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he is a Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar and a member of the Stamps Brass Quintet, Class of 2016, coached by faculty mentor Sam Pilafian. He studies privately with Tim Conner. Comfortable in both classical and jazz, he also performs in the Frost Studio Jazz Band and other notable Frost ensembles. The Stamps Brass Quintet is in its inaugural year, and is working on standard brass quintet literature as well as new works.
Chris Palowitch grew up in Pleasanton, California, and is a graduate of the Amador Valley High School. In his hometown, he is received the majority of his instruction from Tom Hornig, while also studying with Dann Zinn and Chris Barnes.
Palowitch is a multiple-year member of the GRAMMY Jazz Band (2011, 2012), Monterey’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra (2010-2012); the California Band Directors Association Symphonic Bands and Wind Symphonies (tenor trombone, 2007-2009); the Northern California Band Association All-Northern Honor Band (first trombone, 2008, 2009); and the California Band Directors Association/California Alliance for Jazz All-State Jazz Band (bass trombone, 2010-2012). Chris was also a part of Berkeley’s Jazzschool Monday Night Studio Band from 2010 through 2012.
