Ronald Bishop was honored as a Stamps Distinguished Visitor during the 2006-2007 season at the University of Miami Frost School of Music for his many contributions to the world of music. He has been Principal Tuba in the Cleveland Orchestra since 1967. He teaches tuba at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and is a member of the Severance Brass Quintet, Cleveland Low Brass Ensemble, and the Cleveland Symphonic Winds. He has been a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra on numerous occasions, and has made many other appearances as clinician, soloist, and recitalist. Bishop is a former member of the American Wind Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and San Francisco Opera Orchestra.
Bishop has held faculty appointments at the Eastman School of Music, San Francisco State College, and Youngstown State University. He was inducted as National Patron of Delta Omicron, an international music fraternity, in 1983. He received the 1988 Alumni Achievement Award at Baldwin-Wallace College, Eastman School of Music, and a Grammy Award for PDQ Bach: An Awful Lot of Wind and Percussion Instruments.
