It is widely documented that young people benefit immensely from participating in the musical arts, yet funding for this vital area has fallen to desperately low proportions locally and across the country. The Henry Mancini Institute is helping to bridge the gap with its innovative music outreach program, HMI Outbound.
HMI Outbound is well equipped, in cooperation with the Miami-Dade County Public School District, and grant funding by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, to bring its energetic and youthful HMI Orchestra, and a variety of mixed-genre musical ensembles to 12 public schools. HMI Outbound is providing over 6,000 students annually with meaningful and interactive cultural experiences that encourage critical thinking and engage imaginations. HMI Outbound will serve approximately 18,000 public school students by the end of the program’s first three years (2011-2014).
