The Guitar Program at the Frost School of Music is highly selective, ensuring small enrollment and rewarding performance opportunities.
Once accepted academically to the University of Miami, and by musical audition to the Frost School of Music, undergraduate guitarists may choose to earn a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Instrumental Performance, or may choose any major offered through the Frost School of Music, such as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or other B.M. degrees ranging from Music Business to Music Therapy.
Graduate level guitar students who are accepted academically by the University of Miami and by musical audition to the Frost School of Music may earn a Master of Music (M.M.), or a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in performance, or may choose to major in other graduate music program areas offered at Frost. The Graduate Record Examination. (G.R.E.) is not required for a Master of Music degree in Performance.Our Graduate degree candidates in the Classical Guitar program at Frost School of Music have baccalaureate degree with an undergraduate major in music or its equivalent in classical guitar performance, as well as practical experience in performance and ensembles.
Frost School of Music Auditions
Every applicant to the Frost School of Music must complete an audition, regardless of major. Auditions are held on the University of Miami Frost School of Music campus in Coral Gables, Florida, and at regional sites in the United States. They are scheduled in the order that completed Frost School of Music applications and fees are received.
Prospective students for any major are encouraged to seek an interview with members of the Frost School of Music faculty or staff when they are serving as guest conductors and clinicians in various parts of the country.
School of Music Scholarships
Yes, the Guitar Program usually does have available scholarships for outstanding classical guitar applicants. The Frost School of Music grants scholarships based on musical talent. All domestic students seeking scholarship funds are encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid and/or other required forms. Please consult with the Office of Financial Assistance for further information.

Non-music majors wishing to enroll in guitar performance study are required to audition and may, with the permission of the appropriate faculty member and the undergraduate or graduate dean, register for one or two credits a semester. Performance study by non-music majors is subject to teacher availability.
Some music courses are available to University of Miami students that are not enrolled in a music degree program. Contact the Office of Admissions for details.
Students who are not currently enrolled at the University of Miami (such as high school/pre-college students, matriculated UM students, or interested community adults) that also wish to pursue these courses will need to apply as a special student through the Frost School of Music Office of Admissions.
