The Frost School of Music invites renowned musical artists to present master classes in a variety of programs.

Students and faculty applaud violinist Midori Goto after a Q&A session at the Frost School of Music.

In 2010, eminent soprano Renée Fleming gave her first master class in Florida as a fundraising benefit for Frost Opera Theater.  Other guests have included sopranos Helen Donath and Sylvia Greenberg, mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, vocal coach David Aronson (Vienna State Opera), and novelist Mary Gordon. In addition, composers Philip Glass, Anthony Davis, Michael Torke, Richard Wargo, UM alumus Douglas J. Cuomo, and Tina Davidson have all attended performances of their works by Frost Opera Theater.

In the past five years, composition students have enjoyed master classes by Bernard Rands, John Corigliano, Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Christopher Rouse.

Inspiring artists such as Midori and Mark O’Connor have conducted Q&A sessions and master classes for Instrumental Performance students, as well as soloists and musicians from the Cleveland Orchestra and other celebrated symphonies.  Vince De Rosa was on campus for a series of master classes with French horn students—and the roster of master class artists goes on and on.
