The Cleveland Orchestra Residency at the Frost School of Music

One of the most stimulating and meaningful career-training opportunities provided to Frost music students is an annual Cleveland Orchestra Residency at the Frost School of Music.  The Residency take place on the beautiful University of Miami Coral Gables campus during three different weeks each winter.  All residency activities are presented in the classrooms, rehearsal and concert halls of the Frost School of Music.  Frost music students are also invited to attend select Cleveland Orchestra rehearsals at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami.

Made possible through generous individual donations and foundation grants to both The Cleveland Orchestra and the Frost School of Music, there is no additional charge to Frost students to participate in the residency program.

Instrumental Performance students (strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion) as well as Conducting students (instrumental and choral) receive side-by-side orchestra repertoire coaching, master classes and audition workshops.  In addition, Composition students participate in new music reading sessions of their works, with selected compositions chosen for a concert performance by musicians of The Cleveland Orchestra!

In 2010, The Cleveland Orchestra and the Frost School of Music collaborated with The New World Symphony and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami to premiere new chamber music compositions by two Frost student-composers, along with performances of works by established contemporary composers.

Tentative weeks for the 2011 Cleveland Orchestra Residency are:
January 26 – 31, 2011
March 1 – 5, 2011
April 5 – 9, 2011
Dates are subject to change; please check back in December for residency schedule and event descriptions.

The Cleveland Orchestra’s Miami Residency is a 10-year project that began in 2007.  The Cleveland Orchestra serves the Miami-Dade community through an annual series of subscription orchestra concerts from January through March at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, and also conducts residencies at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and The New World Symphony.  Cleveland Orchestra musicians also participate in a broad spectrum of music education and outreach activities throughout South Florida.
