Shannon K. De L’Etoile Receives 2011 Phillip Frost Outstanding Teacher Award

November 18, 2011 — Coral Gables, FL — Associate professor and Music Therapy program director for the University of Miami Frost School of Music Shannon K. de L’Etoile was awarded the 2011 Phillip Frost Outstanding Teacher Award at the September faculty meeting.

Dr. de L’Etoile earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music therapy from Colorado State University. She received her doctorate in music education with an emphasis on music therapy from the University of Kansas. Dr. de L’Etoile taught music therapy at the University of Iowa and at Colorado State University and has worked closely with adults with mental illness, children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders, adults and children with developmental disabilities, and adults and children with neurologic disorders.

Dr. de L’Etoile is recognized as a Fellow of the Robert F. Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy, has served on the editorial review board for the Journal of Music Therapy and is currently on the editorial review board for Music Therapy Perspectives. She joined the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music faculty in fall 2001.
