November 25, 2015 — Coral Gables, FL — Earlier this month, the Communications University of China in Beijing hosted the Second Music Industry Forum 2015. Serona Elton, associate professor and chair of the Department of Music Media & Industry at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, was invited to the forum as a keynote speaker.
Elton presented on the history of Music Business education and how current practices in Music Business education in the U.S. relate to the current state of the industry.
“It was an honor and privilege to be invited to speak at such an important event,” Elton said. “The digital music marketplace in China is rapidly evolving, and I am very enthusiastic about exploring the role that music business education can play in the evolution.”
The timing of the Forum coincided with the release of the 2015 Music Industry Development General Report issued by the CUC. The report found that the Chinese music industry market scale reached to 285.15 billion yuan in 2014, the equivalent of $44.6 billion. The digital music industry in China experienced an 11.5 percent increase in 2014.
