April 04, 2012 — Coral Gables, FL — On April 19th, students of the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program will perform a selection of their original songs at The Stage, an acclaimed venue located in the Miami Design District. The performance will be free for all audiences and begins at 8 p.m.
The Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program is a unique minor run by Professor Rey Sanchez, in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Bruce Hornsby. In this program, talented young songwriters develop their skills as contemporary musicians through the extensive study of the American musical canon, as well as comprehensive training in musicology, composition, music theory, and performance. During their immersion in America’s musical legacy, students often work closely with songwriting greats, such as the program’s namesake, Bruce Hornsby.
Due to the diversity of our rich American musical heritage, this performance will include a wide variety of musical influences, including rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass and country. While the confluence of musical genres may vary throughout the program, there can be no doubt that the music created by these students is quintessential Americana.
The Stage is located at 170 NE 38th Street in Miami. The laid-back, coffee house-style venue boasts comfortable seating, three full bars, and 200 city parking lots in close proximity to the venue.
