Grammy Award-Winner Jon Secada to Appear at UM

June 21, 2010 — June 21, 2010 — Coral Gables — University of Miami Frost School of Music Young Musicians’ Camp Presents Grammy Award Winning Vocalist Jon Secada, with Frost School Dean Shelly Berg and Jazz Virtuoso Ira Sullivan

The Fourth Annual Simon Salz Memorial Concert will take place at the University of Miami Gusman Concert Hall on Saturday, June 26 at 8 p.m. The Young Musicians’ Camp, created 11 years ago by the late South Florida guitarist, Simon Salz, and his wife, Sarah Salz, now serves more than 300 students, ages 7 to18, from Florida, the United States, Caribbean, Central and South America, and Europe every summer.

This special concert will feature Jon Secada, UM alumnus and three-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist. Performing with Secada will be jazz great Ira Sullivan and Frost School of Music Dean Shelly Berg, along with some of South Florida’s top jazz musicians. Talented high school students, participants in this summer’s Young Musicians’ Camp Honors Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Sullivan, will open the concert. Proceeds will benefit the camp scholarship fund.
