Festival Miami Presents In Its Fourth Week Jazz, Salsa, and a Children’s Concert

October 22, 2012 — Coral Gables, FL — The University of Miami Frost School of Music is pleased to present the fourth week of Festival Miami 2012—Florida’s premier live music festival. Now in its 29th season, Festival Miami features a diverse blend of exciting performers showcasing their talents alongside brilliant students and faculty artists. In addition, visiting artists conduct free lectures and master classes to share their insight with audiences. Festival Miami begins October 2 and concludes November 4.

Festival Miami’s fourth week begins on October 23 with a free master class with jazz pianist Jason Moran. In this master class, Moran will focus on current musical trends in jazz, new career opportunities for multi-faceted jazz and studio professionals, and offer practical advice about touring, recording and composing. The following evening, his group Jason Moran & The Bandwagon will delight audiences with their unique style that fuses classical, blues, and jazz techniques with funk, hip-hop, and rock. On October 25, jazz vocalist Roseanna Vitro performs with the DownBeat Collegiate Award-winning Frost Jazz Vocal 1 Ensemble, singing highlights from her Grammy nominated CD The Music of Randy Newman and more. On October 27, Carlos Oliva y Los Sobrinos del Juez will perform an exciting fusion of Cuban music, salsa, Afro beats, samba, jazz and rock. The fourth week of Festival Miami closes on October 28 with Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir, presented in collaboration with Sunday Afternoons of Music for Children.
