June 27, 2016 — Coral Gables, FL — Dear Festival Miami Patron,
It is my pleasure to advise that the next FESTIVAL MIAMI season will open January 19, 2017 and run through February 11, 2017.
The change of schedule from the fall to the winter is for three primary reasons:
1) New UM Fall Break: Last year, the University of Miami adjusted its fall semester academic calendar to include a five-day Fall Break in the middle of October instead of a 3-day weekend resulting in music students and faculty unavailable to participate as performers or audience members. Moving the dates will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy our guest artists and participate in all that Festival Miami has to offer! In addition, the University of Miami has expanded Thanksgiving break to a full week at the end of November, preventing the move of Festival Miami to later in the year.
2) Football: The University of Miami Hurricane football games are often held on Saturdays during Festival Miami, but the time of the games are typically announced a week or two before, making it challenging for patrons to purchase concert tickets in advance.
3) Artist Touring Schedules: Consolidated artist booking schedules are more readily available in the peak winter season.
I can assure you that the festival programming will remain as vibrant as ever!
We will be announcing the line up soon, and look forward to seeing you at the 33rd annual Festival Miami opening January 19, 2017.
