“The arts play a vital role in the life of a community, and music in particular is a unifying force that transcends age, race, and culture.”
—Dr. Phillip Frost
In 2003, when Phillip and Patricia Frost announced their landmark gift of $33 million to the University of Miami School of Music, naming the school, it was one of the largest gifts the University of Miami had received from an individual, and the largest gift ever made to a university-based music school in the United States.
Major gifts, such as those received from the Frosts, the Weeks, the Stamps, and many others, are transformational, providing the forward thrust that’s needed to carry the Frost School well into the future.
“Throughout history, music has been among the world’s greatest joys – the voice of each new era. The Frost School of Music Campaign gives us an opportunity to invest in this great legacy and to be sure that the future of music – in South Florida and far beyond – is even more glorious than its past.”—Marta S. Weeks
A national leader in the development of contemporary programs that respond to the needs of the music professions, the University of Miami Frost School of Music was the first in the nation to offer professionally accredited degrees in Music Industry and in Music Engineering Technology, and among the first to offer degrees in Studio Music and Jazz, Music Therapy, and Accompanying and Chamber Music.
Of equal importance are the Frost School’s strong traditional programs in instrumental and vocal performance, composition, music education, and musicology, which produce a constant stream of highly talented graduates who are making significant contributions to the quality of musical life throughout the world.
The Frost School of Music now needs your help to transform and reach new heights, so that its facilities and endowments align with the caliber of the people and programs it comprises. When you make a gift to the Frost School of Music, you join a special group of individuals who understand the importance of investing in the arts, in our cultural landscape, and in the future of music specifically.
“The School of Music has always been one of the jewels in the crown at the University of Miami. It is already considered one of the best in the country, and now we have an opportunity to take it to an even higher level. When you consider how important music and the arts are, and how vital it is to support young people who are interested in the arts, it’s hard to imagine a better investment.”—Patricia Frost
The Frost School of Music’s Strategic Plan outlines a course of action to strengthen and expand those aspects that already make it a great school: outstanding faculty, exceptionally talented and qualified students, strong traditional and innovative programs, vibrant student life, and community outreach initiatives. Please help us reach our goals.
