February 20, 2013 — Coral Gables — The Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami will be the host site of the semi final and final rounds of the 12th Dranoff International 2 Piano Competition May 11-17, 2013 at Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, Coral Gables, Florida.
Dranoff’s spring festivities will begin with an inaugural recital on Friday, March 8, 2013 featuring the competition’s artistic directors Genova-Dimitrov Piano Duo performing 2-piano works by Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Prokofiev, Anton Arensky and Richard Rodney Bennett. The 8:00 p.m. concert will be preceded by a pre-concert talk at 7:00 p.m. with pianist, composer and Grammy nominated arranger Shelton “Shelly” Berg, Dean of the Frost School of Music, and international radio and television classical music personality and Dranoff Advisory Board member Martin Bookspan.
Berg is also the composer of the required work for the 12th Dranoff International 2 Piano Competition, Mary and Martha Meditation, which was co-commissioned by the Dranoff International 2 Piano Foundation and St. Martha Catholic Church in Miami Shores, Florida.
The 12th Competition semi final rounds will begin Saturday, May 11 and continue until the final round on Thursday, May 17 culminating in a grand finale concert and gala event featuring the winning 2-piano duo with orchestra. All Dranoff Competition events will take place in Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, 1314 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida. For 25 years, the Dranoff International 2 Piano Foundation has been the world’s leading champion of two-piano repertoire and artistry. Located in Florida’s Miami-Dade County, it is one of the area’s few performing arts organizations whose activities span the globe and create recognition abroad for the Miami region.
