Thomas Keck, conductor
Elizabeth Elliott, conductor*
Frost Symphonic Winds presents an invigorating concert of impressive works for large symphonic band conducted by associate director of bands Dr. Thomas Keck and graduate conducting student Elizabeth Elliott. Offered up are Circuits, an energetic, whirlwind composition by American composer Cindy McTee and two transcriptions for band by Elliott from Eric Whitacre’s beautiful choral work Lux Arumque. Also programmed are Leonard Bernstein’s political overture Slava; David Stanhope’s Folksongs for Band, Suite No. 2, a whimsical collection of Australian folksongs written in the style of Percy Grainger; and Hound of Heaven, a multi-movement symphony based on a poem of the same name by Francis Thompson. The concert concludes with Huldingungsmarsch, the first of Wagner’s three large-scale marches for band.
