Presented by the Frost School of Music Department of Vocal Performance
Susan Shiplett Ashbaker has been the founding Artistic Advisor and Master Vocal Coach for The CoOPERAtive Program, a program designed to help young singers prepare for acceptance into an advanced young artist or summer apprentice program, since it’s inception in 2005. This past season alone, CoOPERAtive singers have been accepted to or hired by Houston Grand Opera, the Merola Program, Washington National Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera, among many others. Ashbaker became Commonwealth Youthchoirs’ first Executive Director in 2007, with executive and artistic oversight of two children’s choirs (Pennsylvania Girlchoir and the Keystone State Boychoir) and their in-school choral program Find Your Instrument! (FYI!). Ashbaker is an adjunct professor at Westminster Choir College and served on the faculty of The Curtis Institute of Music from 1993 – 2010. Ashbaker trained at Southern Illinois University, l’Ecole Normale de Musique (Paris), and received a second Master’s degree in accompanying/coaching from University of Illinois under the tutelage of famed pianist, John Wustman.
