November 15, 2014 @ 8:00 PM
UM Gusman Concert Hall

Frost Symphony Orchestra
THOMAS SLEEPER, conductor
CHERI ROSE KATZ, mezzo-soprano
NICHOLAS PERNA, tenor

Thomas Sleeper conducts the Frost Symphony Orchestra in Gustav Mahler’s seminal ‘song-symphony’ Das Lied von der Erde (“The Song of the Earth”), featuring internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Cheri Rose Katz and tenor Nicholas Perna. This incredible masterpiece is a musical journey based on ancient Chinese poetry and richly portrays the full spectrum of human emotion as only Mahler could do. Multi-layered and overflowing with emotion, Das Lied von der Erde becomes it’s own art form – an amalgam of song cycle, opera and symphony.
