Gusman Concert Hall
JAMES JUDD, conductor
ANA CRISTEA, piano
The Frost Symphony Orchestra explores three highly dramatic works under the charismatic leadership of guest conductor, James Judd (Miami Music Project). The orchestra opens with Verdi’s ever-popular Overture to Nabucco, followed by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s Symphony No. 5, subtitled Concerto for Orchestra, that showcases the composer’s considerable flair for orchestration. The concert concludes by welcoming to the stage piano soloist Ana Cristea, a winner in the Frost School’s annual student concerto competition, as she performs Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30.
