Frost Symphonic Winds

September 25, 2013 @ 8:00 PM
Gusman Concert Hall

Thomas Keck, conductor

The Frost Symphonic Winds serve up a fabulous program of classic masterworks and transcriptions by notable composers and arrangers. Associate director of bands Thomas Keck conducts the Frost Symphonic Winds in the U.S. premiere of This is the Drum by Andrew Boysen, a visceral piece that quotes many of Morton Gould’s famous motives in his centenary year. In addition the ensemble performs The Solitary Dancer, a significant early work for wind ensemble that envisions the thoughts of a dancer in repose, and Internal Combustion by David Gillingham that celebrates jazz and the automobile of the Roaring ’20s. Doctoral candidate Timothy Shade also conducts After a Gentle Rain by Anthony Iannoccone.
