The tale of Orpheus—the mythological figure who charmed beasts and even coaxed rocks and trees with his music and who attempted to rescue his wife, Eurydice, from the Underworld—has inspired countless retellings. Composers from Monteverdi to Gluck to Offenbach to Philip Glass have created operas on the subject. Frost Opera Theater’s Visions of Orpheus is a new musical collage which explores the Orpheus legend through its numerous and diverse incarnations.
