Winter’s Journey—by Douglas Cuomo

Based on the poetry that inspired Schubert’s Winterreise, Douglas Cuomo’s Winter’s Journey is a modern song cycle about a solitary traveler in a savage winter whose heart is frozen in grief. The work is scored for tenor, piano, electric guitar and jazz trumpet, using an eclectic mix of jazz, classical and contemporary styles. Douglas Cuomo is the 2011 Frost School of Music Distinguished Alumnus, and he will be on hand to play guitar, joined by faculty members Tony Boutté, Brian Lynch and Alan Johnson.
