“Air, Fire, Water, and Earth are the most excellent four bodies that can come into being.” – Plato, from the Timaeus
The University of Miami Frost School of Music choral program opens its 2011–2012 season with a concert of music about the four classical Greek elements—air, fire, water, and earth. Highlights include a new setting of a traditional folk song featuring Tuvan throat singing—the practice of one singer producing more than one note at a time—and Venezuelan composer Alberto Grau’s chilling monument to the planet Earth, Kasar Mie La Gaji (The Earth is Tired).
* presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting
