Steve Bailey, B.M. '84

Steve Bailey, B.M.  ‘84, bassist, is serving as chair of the bass department at Berklee College of Music.

Bailey is famous for his pioneering work with the six string fretless bass. He was voted runner up for “Bass Player Of The Year” in 1994 and 1996. He has released two solo CD’s and was part of the faculty at Bass Institute of Technology for 10 years.

A partial list of his extensive performance credits include performing and/or touring with artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Lew Tabackin, Dave Leibman, Claudio Roditti, Michel Camilo, the Rippingtons, David Benoit, Kilauea, Jethro Tull, Jon Anderson, Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Billy Joe Shaver, Larry Carlton, Emily Remler, Kitaro, Mel Torme, and Johnny Witherspoon.

Bailey majored in studio music and jazz at the Frost School of Music.

Bailey is co-founder, with Victor Wooten, of Bass Extremes, a cutting edge two bass group on the tone center label. He is the author of numerous books and videos on bass performance.
