Brass Applicants: French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba & Euphonium
The University of Miami Frost School of Music has an outstanding brass program with world-class faculty on every instrument. We look forward to hearing your audition.

French Horn:
French Horn auditions will be conducted using the following format:

All major scales; 2 octaves in eight notes at metronome mark 100

Select two to three contrasting etudes or solos (or movements from a concerto or sonata) which best demonstrate your tone, range, technique, and lyric ability. The following repertoire is recommended, but similar works may be substituted.

Etudes:
• Concert Etude #1 - Complete Method for the Horn by Oscar Franz (2 pages). OR... Two (2) contrasting etudes from either Kopprasch, Mueller, or Maxime Alphonse.
• One Mvt. from either a Strauss or Mozart Concerto. No cadenza necessary.

Orchestral Excerpts:
• Tchaikovsky #5 solo
• Beethoven #6 3rd and 5th Mvts.
• Strauss, "Til Eulenspiegel"
• Wagner, "Siegfried Rhine Journey" (short call)

In addition to the requirements above, you will be expected to sight-read.

Trombone:
Trombone auditions will be conducted using the following format:

Select two (2) contrasting etudes or solos (or movements from a concerto) which best demonstrate your tone, range, technique, and lyric ability. The following repertoire is recommended, but similar works may be substituted.

Trumpet:
Trumpet auditions will be conducted using the following format; some substitutions may be allowed with the permission of the University of Miami Trumpet Professor:

All majors:

All major scales - Two (2) octaves when possible.

One (1) etude of the applicant's choice that demonstrates the student's complete musical and technical abilities.

At least one (1) movement from one of the following pieces (multiple pieces may be selected if desired):
• Haydn Concerto
• Hummel Concerto
• Hindemith Sonata
• Kennan Sonata
• Stevens Sonata

A short sight-reading exercise

Performance majors:
Applicants for the Instrumental Performance program should
also perform the following orchestral excerpts:
• Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition - Promenade
• Stravinsky - Petrushka; Ballerina's Dance
• Respighi - Pines of Rome; offstage solo

Tuba & Euphonium:
Tuba & Euphonium auditions will be conducted using the following format:
