Festival Miami 2012 Presents Dynamic Concerts In Its Final Week

October 29, 2012 — Coral Gables, FL — The University of Miami Frost School of Music is pleased to present the fifth week of Festival Miami 2012—Florida’s premier live music festival. Now in its 29th season, Festival Miami features a diverse blend of exciting performers showcasing their talents alongside brilliant students and faculty artists. In addition, visiting artists conduct free lectures and master classes to share their insight with audiences. Festival Miami begins October 2 and concludes November 4.

The fifth and final week of this dynamic festival begins in UM Gusman Hall on October 30 with the popular annual Songwriters Showcase, featuring songs written and performed by students enrolled in the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music program. Top songwriters and faculty serve as judges, and the audience is polled for their favorite selections! On November 2, a tribute to Nat “King” Cole features vocal stylist and guitarist George Benson with his band and the Frost School’s stellar Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. The concert will also include many of the songs from Cole's classic albums, performed by his younger brother Freddy Cole – an international jazz favorite. This concert is presented at the Adrienne Arsht Center, in conjunction with the JazzRoots Series. On November 3, multi-Grammy Award winner Jon Secada will perform an intimate cabaret-style show in UM Gusman Hall, featuring his numerous hits and popular Broadway selections. Festival Miami closes on November 4 with a grand finale in the Adrienne Arsht Center, with Karen Kennedy conducting a massive ensemble comprised of the Master Chorale of South Florida, Florida’s Singing Sons Boychoir, the Frost Chorale and the Frost Symphony Orchestra performing Carl Orff’s thrilling Carmina Burana, the most popular choral work of this century.
