Festival Miami 2012 Continues Its Musically Diverse Showcase

October 07, 2012 — Coral Gables — The University of Miami Frost School of Music is pleased to present the second week of Festival Miami 2012—Florida’s premier live music festival. Now in its 29th season, Festival Miami features a diverse blend of exciting performers showcasing their talents alongside brilliant students and faculty artists. In addition, visiting artists conduct free lectures and master classes to share their insight with audiences. Festival Miami begins October 2 and concludes November 4.

Festival Miami’s second week opens on October 9 with NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman and the Frost Concert Jazz Band. Whether delivering one incredible solo after the next on his rich tenor saxophone, or soaring over a killer big band with his sublime soprano sax, bop-rooted Dave Liebman always leaves audiences wanting more! The next day, Dave Liebman will present a free master class covering a variety of jazz improvisation topics and the music business as it relates to the jazz artist. On October 11, a free concert features compositions by winners of the Frost School of Music 2012 Emerging Composers Competition. On October 12, Frost faculty artist Santiago Rodriguez performs an exquisite piano recital featuring works by Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Lecuona, and others. Grammy Award winning soprano Ana María Martínez presents a rare solo recital on October 13 featuring captivating soprano songs and arias from her acclaimed recordings and recent international tours. The second week of Festival Miami closes on October 14 with a concert affectionately entitled, “Luciano and Friends,” a celebration of bassoon professor Luciano Magnanini’s storied career with an inspiring chamber music concert presented by the Frost Chamber Players.
