Founded in 2012, the Resound Duo combines history’s two oldest instruments to create a standard repertoire for voice and percussion, unashamedly embracing the greatest art from both secular and sacred sources. The duo is committed to commissioning and performing new works as well as writing pieces of their own. In July 2014, they premiered three pieces as an ensemble-in-residence at the soundSCAPE music festival in Maccagno, Italy. In the Fall, they will premiere four more pieces by the student composers of the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
Resound is also highly active in free improvisation. They worked with renew music group to create the performance art—improvisation piece Casting, which toured Texas during the spring of 2013. They are now members of the newly created Unbound Improvisation Ensemble in Miami, which works to break the fourth wall between audience and performer through improvisatory music. Unbound will be premiering their own improvised opera in the spring of 2015 that explores the ability of instrumentalists to create theatrical characters along side vocalists on stage.
