A world-class jazz pianist and composer, Martin Bejerano heads the jazz piano department at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, while continuing to perform, compose, and record music in his busy schedule. Bejerano has been a member of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Roy Hayne’s Grammy-nominated quartet for 14 years. He has also performed and/or recorded with such jazz luminaries as Christian McBride, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Arturo Sandoval, Brian Lynch, and many others. Bejerano’s career as a solo artist and band leader blossomed with his debut album, Evolution/Revolution, which achieved high critical acclaim and reached number nine on the jazz airplay charts. His piece, Fantasia de Tres Mundos, a fusion of classical, jazz, and Afro-Cuban influences, premiered in April 2014 at the South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center. Since then, it has been recorded and performed internationally.
Bejerano has adjudicated for the National Young Arts Foundation, the Jazz Educators Network, and numerous other institutions. He is featured on several recent recordings, including Roy Hayne’s Roy-alty, and Martin Bejerano Trio’s Potential Energy. His latest recording as a leader, Trio Miami, will be released October 2016, while August 2016 saw the release of his interactive multi-media iBook on jazz improvisation, Practicing Improvisation.
