A world-class jazz pianist and composer, Martin Bejerano, M.M. ’98, is assistant professor of jazz piano at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He maintains a busy schedule of performing, composing and recording music. Bejerano has been a member of Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award-winner Roy Haynes’s Grammy-nominated quartet for 14 years. He has also performed and/or recorded with such jazz luminaries as Christian McBride, Dave Holland, Pat Metheny, Arturo Sandoval, Brian Lynch, and many others. Bejerano’s career as a solo artist and band leader blossomed with his debut album, Evolution/Revolution, which achieved high critical acclaim and reached number nine on the jazz airplay charts. His piece, Fantasia de Tres Mundos, a fusion of classical, jazz, and Afro-Cuban influences, premiered in April 2014 at the South Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center. Since then, it has been recorded and performed internationally.
Bejerano has adjudicated for the National Young Arts Foundation, the Jazz Educators Network, and numerous other institutions. He is featured on several recent recordings including Roy Haynes’s Roy-alty, and the Martin Bejerano Trio’s Potential Energy. His latest recording as a leader, Trio Miami, and an interactive multi-media iBook, Practicing Improvisation, were both released in 2016.
