How can University of Miami’s Honor Choir enrich students’ learning?

“I can speak from personal experience, because my very first honor choir was at UM. Being around other wonderful musicians helped me to determine this is what I was passionate about, and I am certain it was the foundation for my going on to become a music teacher.”

Jessica Napoles, University of Utah
Honor Choir Alumnus and 2011 Middle School Mixed Choir Clinician

“It will give participants an opportunity to perform music with people who share a common bond: a love of singing.  Because of this common bond, we will be able to reach levels of artistry that might not have been possible in a different group of people.”

Dr. Corin Overland, University of Miami
2012 Middle School Mixed Choir Clinician

“Coming together and singing with other high school students and a guest clinician really enhances each student’s list of life’s experiences.”

Merrilee Webb, Dixie State College
2012 High School Women’s Choir Clinician

“Any time students come together for a festival they will learn new ideas and concepts that they can take back to their own school and share. It not only enriches their individual learning, but puts them in a place to be leaders in their own communities.”

Dr. Matthew Mehaffey, University of Minnesota
2011 High School Mixed Choir Clinician

How do choral directors benefit from UM Honor Choir?

“UM HONOR choir provides a catalyst of sharing with colleagues in a setting that is enriching not only to the students we bring but also within the relationships among the educators.  I go away every year with a new and refreshed perspective just from the one day event.  It is a worthwhile day that culminates in a performance that is very rewarding to witness.  It has provided the opportunity to get together with other colleagues and establish great networking opportunities and lifelong associations.  I look forward to it every year.”
