Account Clearance

All students must pay the balance on their account before they can select courses for a future semester. If the balance has not been paid, a registration stop may be placed to prevent registration. When the balance has been satisfied, the stop will be lifted.

Previous students applying for re-admission must be cleared by Student Account Services. An outstanding balance will prohibit the student's readmission until the balance has been satisfied. Requests for transcripts and diplomas must be cleared in the same manner as re-admission.

Students who are graduating, withdrawing or leaving UM

If you are graduating, have withdrawn or are just leaving the University of Miami and have borrowed student loans (GradPLUS, Stafford and/or Perkins loans) federal regulations require that you complete an Exit Interview prior to separating from the University (even if the separation is a temporary one).  The Exit Interview provides you with important information relating to the loans you received and a review of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. This Exit Interview process covers GradPLUS, Stafford and Perkins loans; please be aware that if you have borrowed Perkins loans you will be asked first to complete your Perkins counseling followed by an automated transfer to complete your GradPLUS, Stafford counseling.

You will be sent an email notification at the appropriate time with instructions as to how to complete this process on line. The on-line exit counseling process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please be aware that you will need the name and addresses of two references to complete this process.  The process is started from your University of Miami myUM account.  After logging into your myUM account at http://myUM.miami.edu, go to the 'Student' tab and select the 'Financial' link.  Then click on the 'Exit Interview' link listed under the Student Accounts Information.   If you are not able to complete the on-line exit interview, please email us at exitinterview@miami.edu.

Please be aware that failure to complete this process may result in having a "stop" placed on the student's transcript and/or diploma.

Check Distribution Services

The Check Distribution Office distributes payroll and credit balance/refund checks. College Work-Study and Miami Commitment students can make arrangements with their department supervisors to receive their paychecks in their departments. Check Distribution is located in Room 129A of the Ashe Building.

Banking Facilities

Checking Accounts: Most students prefer to open their own checking account at a local bank in order to manage financial needs. When you open an account, it is recommended that you deposit cash, traveler's checks or a money order. Most banks will clear checks drawn on local bank in three (3) business days. However, non-local checks may take seven (7) or more business days to clear. Foreign items may take 20 to 30 business days to clear.

On-Campus 24-Hour Teller Machine: On-campus, banking services are available through Bank of America's  automatic teller machine, which is located at the University Center . This enables students to receive funds from their Check Card, MasterCard, PLUS, or VISA accounts 24 hours a day. Transaction fees may be assessed and vary among banking institutions.
