Which University students receive 1098-Ts?

Undergraduate, graduate, law, medical and continuing studies students.

Do I have to include this form with my tax return?

You need to consult your tax advisor for any questions relating to your personal tax return or your parents tax return.  While it is not federally required to include this document with your tax return your individual tax preparer may prefer to include the document with your return.

Does the University report this information to the IRS?

Yes, the University is required by federal regulations to report your 1098T information to the Internal Revenue Service.

Why is Box 1 blank?

The IRS requires the University to complete either Box 1 or Box 2, not both boxes.

How was the amount in Box 2 determined?

The amount in Box 2 is the total of all tuition charged to your account for the time period:  January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007.

How was the amount in Box 4 determined?

The amount in Box 4 is the total of all scholarships, grants and tuition remission credited to your account for the time period:  January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007.
