UMAA Goes International

Your UM Alumni Association is going global! With over 148,000 living alumni, and 7,294 alumni internationally, the UMAA is working to connect all alumni located in over 148 countries.
This summer, the UMAA will make its first global stop and travel to Latin America June 22-28, 2008. On June 24 the UMAA will host a luncheon for alumni and parents in São Paolo, Brazil at the InterContinental Hotel. A second luncheon will be held on June 27 in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Four Seasons Hotel. These efforts are just the beginning of a global approach to alumni outreach your Alumni Association will lead over the next year. Scheduled global stops for the 2008-2009 academic year include London and Tokyo. ’Canes Film Showcase

The University of Miami Alumni Association and the School of Communication are pleased to invite you to the 2008 ’Canes Film Showcase in Los Angeles. The event will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the Paramount Theatre at Paramount Studios, 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, California.
The event features a screening of select new short films, produced by the 2008 winners of the ’Canes Film Festival and graduates of the School of Communication’s Motion Picture Program. There will also be a reception immediately following with an opportunity to meet the filmmakers.

The College of Engineering Alumni Association will hold its Spring Alumni Reception and Installation of Officers on Wednesday, May 21 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Brasserie Les Halles in Coral Gables. This event welcomes our newest alumni, the College of Engineering Class of 2008, and introduces the incoming executive board of the COEAA. The School of Business Administration's Center for Nonprofit Management presents Dabney Park, founding partner of Performance Executive Search and Management Consulting, Inc., senior partner of Mark Stanley & Company / EMA Partners International, executive vice president of Thoughtware, vice president of the Higher Education Management Institute, and executive officer of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. Park will discuss how to enhance one's professional career in the nonprofit world. Regular admission is $25, UM students, faculty, and staff are admitted for free. MIAMI CIVIC MUSIC ASSOCIATION & ORCHESTRA MIAMI PRESENT ANGEL ROMERO

Orchestra Miami, under the direction of Frost School of Music alumna Elaine Rinaldi, B.M. '89, will present world renowned guitarist, Angel Romero. The concert will feature Mr. Romero in the North American premiere of David Chesky’s Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra.

Master of Fine Arts Candidates Exhibition 2008

The Department of Art and Art History presents its annual juried exhibition and opening featuring art work from Mitch Blessing, Grant Bloodgood, Tutua Boshell, Liliam Dominguez, Kathleen Hudspeth, Courtney Johnson, Lisa Kaplowitz, Jeff Larson, Lucinda Linderman, Alicia Sumner Mack, Richard Mack, Park McArthur, Pam Moss, Barry Sparkman, Runcie Tatnall, Karla Turcios Rodriguez, Richard White, and Cristina Figueredo Zizold. The reception occurs from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Lowe Art Museum and is free and open to the public.
