How do I apply to the Intensive English Program?
Go to www.miami.edu/iep and fill out the IEP application.

How much is the application fee?
The application fee for the IEP is $100.00.

What do I need to send with my application?
All applicants need to send a completed application, the application fee, a passport sized photo, a copy of their passport ID page, an original bank verification letter or scholarship letter.

What information needs to be included in the bank letter?
The bank letter must be an original document that states that the student, family member or sponsor has sufficient funds to cover all of the student’s expenses while studying at the IEP. The amount needed for the 14 week course is $16,000 and the amount needed for the 6 week course is $10,000.

When should I apply to the IEP?
We recommend applying as early as possible so that you have plenty time to apply for your F-1 visa. Please check our website for session application deadlines.

Is there an age requirement to study at the IEP?
We recommend that a student be at least 18 years of age.

How long does it take to process my application?
When the IEP has received all of your admission documents, it takes 2-4 business days to process your application.

When do I receive my I-20?
The IEP will send you your IEP acceptance package and I-20 via express mail once your application has been processed.

Transfer

Can I transfer to the IEP?
If you are currently studying at another school in the United States, you can request a transfer to the IEP at UM.

What do I need to send to the IEP to complete my transfer application?
You will need to submit the following:

  • Application to the Intensive English Program, including your permanent foreign address and your local U.S. address
  • Bank letter or scholarship letter
  • Nonrefundable/nontransferable application fee of $100.00
  • Photocopy of the passport identification page
  • Photocopy of the F-1 visa stamp in passport
  • Photocopy of your current Form I-20
  • Photocopy of your current I-94

IEP Tuition

When do I pay my tuition and fees?
You will pay your tuition and fees during the IEP Registration and Orientation.

How do I pay my IEP tuition?
You can pay your IEP tuition by check, credit card, wire transfer, or cash.

IEP Classes

How does the IEP decide my level?
You will take a placement exam during IEP Registration and Orientation. The exam has listening section, a reading section, a writing section and an interview with an IEP faculty member.

How many hours will I be in class?
All fulltime IEP students at the IEP take 20-23 hours of class.

When do IEP classes meet?
IEP classes meet every day. On Monday to Thursday, classes are from 9AM to 3PM or from 10AM to 4PM. On Fridays, classes are from 9AM to 12PM.

When will I receive my schedule?
You will receive your IEP class schedule on Friday of Registration/Orientation week.

Admission to UM

Can I attend UM after I finish the IEP?
Successful completion of Level 5 in the Intensive English Program fulfills the English requirement for undergraduate admission to the University of Miami. Admission to the University of Miami is completed through the International Admission Department. Admission to the University of Miami is selective. We actively seek students who demonstrate academic strength, personal integrity, and seriousness of educational purpose.

Does UM offer conditional admission?
Yes, UM does offer conditional admission to academically qualified undergraduate applicants. Academically qualified applicants who are unable to take the TOEFL, or who have scored less than the required minimum, may be offered admission to undergraduate programs with the condition that they successfully complete level five of the University of Miami Intensive English Program or obtain a 550 TOEFL and higher.
