BGS Admissions Criteria:

  1. Graduated from high school at least four (4) years ago
  2. Cumulative GPA of 2.2 on all previous college work
  3. U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  4. Not enrolled in another school or college at the University of Miami
  5. Student must be pursuing first undergraduate degree
  6. Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae

Students admitted and enrolled in the Bachelor of General Studies may not transfer into any other undergraduate University of Miami school or college. The BGS program is intended for students who are pursing their first undergraduate degree.

Step One: Schedule an advising appointment

Step Two: APPLY Online and Submit the $75.00 Nonrefundable Application Fee

  1. Fill out the Online Application
  2. Save the application into PDF format and forward it to our office via email: bgs@miami.edu
  3. If you are NOT a UM Employee visit the Application Fee payment page.
  4. Scroll down and click "ENROLL NOW" in order to pay for the application fee online.*
  5. Click "Check Out Now" to proceed to payment.
  6. Click "New User" underneath the Login button. You will create a login with your personal email address and a unique password in order to complete the billing process below.
  7. Once you fill in personal information, you will be directed to a secure payment processing site to input your billing and credit card information.

*Please note that submitting your application fee does not guarantee acceptance into the BGS program. Your complete application will be reviewed when all application materials and application fee are received by the BGS office. The admission decision will be sent by mail from the University of Miami, Office of Admission.

Step Three: Request previous transcripts

Request that official transcripts from all previously attended colleges or universities are sent to the Office of Admission. Official transcripts must come directly from the institution. Students who are attending college for the first time (or who have fewer than 30 college credits) should provide an official high school transcript or copy of GED scores. Financial Assistance

If you are applying for financial assistance you should contact the Office of Financial Assistance at (305) 284-5212. Students who wish to apply for financial assistance must first be accepted as a degree-seeking student.
