The University of Miami is proud of our diverse community, and we value the many contributions of our students, faculty, and staff in helping to create a culture of belonging. In keeping with our policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression, the University allows and welcomes individuals to use restrooms and live in housing that corresponds to their gender identity.

In 2013, the University created the LGBTQ Task Force and is continually reviewing and implementing its recommendations in order to make our campuses more welcoming for all students, faculty, and staff. This includes offering gender-inclusive housing options along with identifying gender-inclusive restrooms on our campuses and in planning future construction. Additionally, I am very excited to share that we will open the new University of Miami LGBTQ Resource Center and welcome its inaugural director this August for the beginning of the fall semester.

The University recognizes that gender identity is a key component of what it means to be a truly inclusive institution, and we will continue to promote a campus climate where everyone feels welcome, respected, and safe.
